ABOUT THE DROP

The Project

Kelly Reemtsen’s debut on Dropshop introduces her iconic female figures bathed in saturated pinks and oranges to the platform. For each image, a small edition of artist proofs elevated by hand-applied gold leaf adds a luminous, tactile dimension to the series. The release coincides with Fool’s Gold, Reemtsen’s solo exhibition at Albertz Benda opening April 2 in Los Angeles, extending the show’s exploration of reflection, illusion, and the seductive pull of shine.

A woman from three vantage points. We all have different sides and realities. How are we all things at once and throughout the day? Do we see ourselves differently than others perceive us? For Reemtsen, we dress for the job, our clothes adopting a visual language that reflects each facet of our personality and the task at hand. In these works, the tools held by her subjects heighten the emotional tenor of each scene with objects of labor that double as psychological cues, where an aggressive instrument signals a complex or demanding task.

Widely recognized and avidly collected, Kelly Reemtsen is known for her iconic series of richly textured paintings featuring stylish contemporary women wielding the kind of powerful tools traditionally reserved for men. This recurring image acts as a metaphor for the capable women who arm themselves with quick minds, inherent talents, and the necessary resources to achieve success in today’s complicated world.
