KYNE (b. 1988, Fukuoka) started his career as a graffiti artist before attending art school, ultimately evolving past his formal training to blaze a new path; where he now stands as one of Japan’s leading commercial artists. KYNE’s work features fearless women with striking gazes, creating iconic portraits that maintain an explicit boundary between the world of the figure’s and that of the viewers. KYNE achieves his style through precise, stylized linework and bold colors, giving his work a distinct, Japanese look that has captured global admiration of the younger, brand-aware generation.
His innovative approach has made him an icon for youth- oriented brands, attracting global attention. His versatility extends beyond visual art, as he also performs as a DJ and designs fashion items and other goods. This adaptability reflects his belief in art as a “survival strategy,” continually evolving to engage with his environment.
KYNE’s work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the National Art Center, Tokyo (2023); Kaikai Kiki Gallery, Tokyo (2022); GALLERY TARGET, Tokyo (2021, 2019); Urban Art Fair, Paria (2020); and the Tokyo International Art Fair (2019). KYNE continues to live and work in Fukuoka.
